Arts + Preservation= Jobs

Arts and Preservation have been the lifeblood of the Rhode Island economy for decades. Question 5 will create jobs and grow our economy.

Jobs

The nine organizations named in the bond alone account for nearly $200 million in annual economic activity and more than 1,900 jobs in Rhode Island. During the life of the bond, the improvements made to the facilities will create 612 temporary jobs and 568 permanent jobs.

In cities and towns around Rhode Island we have witnessed the revitalization of the areas around performing arts facilities.

From Warren to Woonsocket, restaurants have booming business on theater nights and new jobs are being created. With projects selected for Providence, Newport, East Providence, Warren, Westerly and Woonsocket, small businesses in those communities can look forward to increased business and additional foot traffic. With a pool of nearly $7 million for a competitive matching grant program for qualified arts organizations, there are opportunities for every community in Rhode Island to realize a benefit from this bond.

Jobs

The bond is a sound investment in Rhode Island’s future. Funds are invested in our communities and the organizations who will receive proceeds and compete for grants are required to provide a 1:1 match.

The bond will give the Rhode Island economy a much-needed boost and put skilled craftsman back to work.

$5 million in funding for State Preservation Grants would invest in repairing treasured historic places in local communities. That investment of $5 million is estimated to generate more than $60 million in construction activity. That means jobs for roofers, carpenters, electricians, masons, plumbers, architects, engineers and other specialized craftspeople who are still reeling from the economic downturn.

Jobs

Every Rhode Islander will benefit from a more vibrant economy, more jobs and greater access to arts and historic sites.
